Old Arcata Road Design Project
Old Arcata Road is a significant route to Bayside and Sunny Brae. Sunny Brae Middle School, Jacoby Creek Elementary School and the Bayside Post Office are located here but limited walking and bicycling facilities can make Old Arcata Road challenging for all to travel.
The City hosted a series of workshops to hear the community's concerns and gather ideas for improving Old Arcata Road for all users from Buttermilk Lane to Jacoby Creek Road.
Based on the Bayside community's ideas, the City and a team of local planners and engineers developed alternatives for roadway rehabilitation and safety and traffic flow improvements.
The City started the Old Arcata Road's redesign process with a blank slate so Old Arcata Road neighbors and community members could fully shape the outcome.

The Old Arcata Road Design project team presented project updates at the November 15, 2016, Transportation Safety Committee meeting and the November 16, 2016, Arcata City Council meeting.
The design phase of the Old Arcata Road Improvement Project will be complete by the end of 2016. Implementation of any improvements the community helps select through this process could potentially take several years, depending on future funding.
