The City has contracted with V & C Construction to repair 15 broken sewer mains and install 16 sewer manholes around Arcata, including the Downtown area. There have been weather delays to this project, which is near completion as of Friday, November 21. Thank you for your patience as we work to repair and maintain our valuable city infrastructure. When you give a gift of carbon offsets from your very own Arcata Community Forest to a loved one, you're also giving a gift to the planet. Ten dollars offsets a metric ton of carbon dioxide gas, the equivalent of flying from San Francisco to New York City and back. The offset comes with a certificate that makes an ecologically conscious gift for anyone on your list. Call the Environmental Services Department at (707) 822-8184 or email EServices@CityofArcata.org for more information.More gift ideas from the City of Arcata
If you are experiencing flooding in your area and need sandbags to protect your property, filled sand bags are available for public use at Westwood Village Shopping Center, Sunny Brae Shopping Center, and by Jolly Giant Creek on 11th Street. If you need assistance with sand bags, please call the Arcata Public Works Department at (707) 822-5957.
Congratulations to Michael Winkler, Arcata's new Mayor, and Paul Pitino, our new Vice-Mayor. Both were elected by the City Council to their new roles at a special Council meeting on Tuesday, December 9. At the same meeting, Councilmembers Sofia Pereira and Mark Wheetley were sworn-in and Councilmember Alex Stillman retired. In keeping with Arcata's Municipal Code, the Council elects a Mayor and Vice-Mayor from among its members at a special meeting each December. Both the Mayor and Vice-Mayor fulfill the duties of those offices for one year.
