Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary users, there will be resurfacing work on trails to the east and west of South I Street beginning on Monday, July 21, and lasting for about two weeks. The Arcata City Council wants to hear your thoughts on the City's 2014-19 Housing Element, part of the City's General Plan. The public hearing will be held on Wednesday, July 23 at 6 p.m. as part of the City Council meeting in the Council Chamber at City Hall. The Housing Element outlines the goals and measures that the City will implement to promote safe and decent housing affordable to people of all income levels. The Humboldt Waste Management Authority sponsors a household hazardous waste collection event on Saturday, July 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pierson Park on Central Avenue and Pickett Road in McKinleyville. Bring your wet paint, used oil, auto and garden products, pharmaceutical sharps (in biohazard containers), aerosols, batteries, household cleaners and fluorescent bulbs. Cost is $5 per vehicle. Twelve Friends of the Arcata Marsh joined Environmental Services Department staff members to remove a small mountain of invasive plants from around the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center on Saturday.
