Projects

The Redevelopment Agency has deposited, as required by Community Redevelopment Law, 20% of the tax increments from the Project area into a separate Affordable Housing Fund to be used for the purpose of increasing, improving, and preserving the community's supply of low- and moderate-income housing. In addition to the Agency's Affordable Housing Fund, the City of Arcata applies for federal and state grants to provide additional financial assistance to the development of affordable housing.

Currently the City of Arcata is involved in two single-family affordable housing projects and two multi-family affordable housing projects. Multi-family housing projects include rental properties, shelters, and transitional housing for the homeless.

SINGLE FAMILY PROJECTS

JANES CREEK MEADOW

The City is currently working with Humboldt Bay Housing Development Corporation (HBHDC), a private non-profit community housing developer, to develop ten (10) new affordable homes in Arcata. The ten affordable homes are under construction and will be available for sale by January 2010 to low-income families. Janes Creek Community Homes feature 2 and 3 bedroom layouts with a 1K photovoltaic system, solar hot water, and tank-less water heaters. For more information please contact the HBHDC at 707-826-7312.

SANDPIPER MOBILE HOME PARK

The City is currently working with Resident Owned Parks to provide improvements to Sandpiper Mobile Home Park located at 115 South G Street. Once the park improvements are completed, low income households will be eligible for a Home Ownership Program loan to purchase a new mobile home that will be installed in the park.
