Parks & Recreation Master Plan
The City of Arcata is excited to be completing an update of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
This plan will update and replace the current Park and Recreation Master Plan completed in 1979. The city will collect and analyze data to develop goals, objectives, policies and standards for the City's park system, the recreational elements of open space/forest areas, trail connectivity and recreation facilities.
The Parks and Recreation Master Plan will be used to develop an element of the City of Arcata’s General Plan and will require the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Committee and the approval of the Planning Commission and Arcata City Council.
The purpose of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan is to create a clear set of goals, policies and objectives that will provide direction to City staff, Parks and Recreation Committee, the Planning Commission and the City Council for development, re-development and enhancement of the City's parks system, open space, trails and recreation facilities for the next 10 years. This process is to include developing a comprehensive inventory inclusive of current recreational opportunities along open space areas and the Community forest and an analysis of forecasted needs and implementation strategies.
