Commission Vacancies & Applications
As commissioners resign, complete their terms or are removed from office, commission vacancies are created which are filled by interested community members. The City Manager’s Office announces commission vacancies as these openings arise. Vacancies on the Planning Commission or Historic and Design Review Commission are announced 90 days prior to term expirations and commissioners are encouraged to re-apply for their seats. Term expirations are specified in Arcata Municipal Code Title II, Chapter 3 (AMC II-3).

Appointments
The City Council interviews all qualified applicants. A majority vote of the Council is needed for appointment.
Qualifications
Unless otherwise expressly provided under specified sections for each commission and committee in Arcata Municipal Code II-3, all boards, commissions and committees shall be comprised of seven members. No less than five members shall be residents of the City of Arcata and the remaining two must live or work in the Arcata Planning Area.
